Lack of posting equals fun things!

I have had a busy week this week.  I had a friend in town from New Zealand and I was a bit busy showing him around town.  We went to the LA County Fair, and also down to San Diego.  I should have taken some photos though.  I realized that I need to start getting into the habit of taking more photos and trying to get back into photography a bit more.  So, I hope that means that this blog will have more fun photos to look at!

I had a really fun idea for this post.

I had a job interview yesterday.  I had a really fun idea of posting the outfit that I had worn mostly because I never feel like I wear cute clothes, but I found the most adorable black high heels with a little black bow on it and just about died that they had my size! and I planned on taking a photo after the interview and posting it.  But, I just didn't feel like the interview went that well I don't think I'll be too heartbroken to hear that I didn't get the job because I wasn't really looking forward to working on Saturdays  So, now I have half wallowing and half celebrating that I don't think I got it Mostly because I really wanted to go to this Bluegrass festival up in San Francisco next weekend and if I got this job I don't think it would be possible So, now it's back to more job hunting.  I'll probably wear the same outfit to the next job interview so maybe we will have another chance!

Hi ho Hi Ho...it's job hunting I go.

Ya know, I thought that finding a job once I returned from my travels would be much easier than it has been.  Queue to my e-mail inbox full of rejection notices.  At this point, I don't see why I keep applying to places not to mention how difficult they make it!  Upload your resume, fill out the boxes that has everything that your resume has, answer these questions, give us your right leg I do have one opportunity still open, and I really really want it.  It would be the perfect job, really.  I have to take a test as the next step in the application process more hoops so I am hoping that I will be able to do well enough to move on to the next step and wow them in an interview... and then ultimately a job!

Watermelon Salad- An intriguing party starter...and some super simple DIY

I joined an alumni chapter of my sorority about a year ago, and each month we have a different event. This month's event was a Pinterest Party.  The idea was to make a recipe from Pinterest that you wanted to try and bring it to the party where we would be doing Pinterest crafts.  Naturally, I was all over this idea because I pin tons of recipes and NEVER do them.

I got an idea from when I was at a friend's house and she had made a Watermelon Salad that was so intriguing and yet so delicious.  I didn't ask her for the recipe, although I should have...but I found one on Pinterest that looked like it could be a match.  I thought I was doubling the recipe, but I don't think I doubled the watermelon.  It turned out a bit soupy as a result of my yolo attitude (actually this is more of my yolo attitude) of concocting this recipe.  I also added avocado because, I mean, who doesn't like avocado (and my friend had added avocado to hers), and also I put cilantro into the salad instead of mint and dill because that's what my friend did (I think?), and I didn't really read that part of the recipe...I kind of just assumed it was cilantro!

Watermelon, onion, avocado, feta, and cilantro?  Who would have thought this would have been so delightfully delicious?  It was quite a hit at the party, several girls asked me for the recipe.  I wish I had taken a picture of it before it was devoured.  I thought it was going to be a disaster because it looked a bit gross after I added the feta cheese...but it was oh so good!  Perfect for these hot days and a great conversation starter!

We made some simple crafts from Pinterest.  I don't have the links since the crafts were supplied for us.  But the coffee mug is from the 99 Cent Store with permanent marker design (I went for a Pride and Prejudice quote- even though I think Mr. Darcy is a jerk.) and you just pop it into the oven at 350 degrees for 30 minutes and voila!  The ink becomes permanent! I have yet to put my mug in the oven so who knows if the voila part I added is indeed that simple!
We then made coasters.  Also super simple.  Get some tiles (I think the girl said she only bought them for 16 cents a piece?  What a steal!), cut a decorative napkin to size, add a thin layer of mod podge to the tile, put the napkin on the tile, add another layer of mod podge on top of the napkin, let dry, spray with acrylic spray, and glue cork to the bottom.  Voila!  Coasters! I actually did complete this one- it really is as simple as voila!

Edie Brickell and the New Bohemians: "What I am"

I'd like to interupt the 30 days of songs blogging to bring you some information:

I kind of realized that I didn't do much of an introduction.  I kind of just hopped right into this new blog, and now I am feeling up to writing this post.  So, a little about me?  I graduated from college a couple years ago and jumped right into the workforce.  I even went back and started my masters.  I found myself becoming jealous of people.  Jealous that they were living the life that I had always wanted.  Right then and there I made a decision.  I wasn't going to hold back any longer.  I thought it would be the perfect opportunity right now (ya know, no kids, no husband, no mortgage) to save up some money and do a bit of traveling.  I quit my job, and traveled for about 3 months.  I went to Europe for about 3 weeks, and I took an 8 week/ 10,000 mile road trip to Alaska with two of my girl friends.

Paris, France: Kissing Oscar Wilde's Grave

Victoria, British Columbia, Canada: Celebrating Canada Day!
Let me tell you, it was most absolutely the time of my life.  I am so happy I did it.  But now?  Now I am back, living with my parents, searching for a job, and desperately wanting to be out on my own.  Here you will find bits of me on my way to become the person I have seen myself being.
