The world's most painful interviews.

As if job hunting wasn't hard enough with people telling you to just "find a job already"...

 After sending countless resumes
you might get one call back, maybe two, maybe three.
Then you have to go to the actual interview.

The interviews that I have been on were some of the most painful things to experience.
Today, I will be sharing some of the experiences that I have had.

#1
Interviewer: "Oh, interesting!  My wife was in the same sorority as you!"
Me: "That's awesome!  Small world!"
Interviewer: "Yea, she hated it."
Umm, what?  Then why even bring that up in the first place?
How do you even respond to that?
Especially when that's the first thing out of his mouth!

#2
Interviewer: "What was your GPA in college?"
Me:  Told him my GPA
Interviewer: "Oh, that's kind of bad."
Me: "Umm I guess so.  I mean, I got into grad school with it and got a 3.4 my first quarter."
Interviewer: "Well, what was your GPA in high school?"
Me: Told him my GPA
Interviewer: "Oh. So you were one of those students that just slipped by doing the bare minimum."
What?!
Are you kidding me?
Yea I'm a slacker that "slipped by" and then went on to college and then on to grad school.
I'm so sure.
I nearly walked out of this interview because I was so offended because I do work really hard.

#3
Interviewer: "So your last job is the only REAL job you've had?"
Me: "Umm, I suppose so?"
I'm sorry that I was going to COLLEGE full time and couldn't have a corporate 9-5 job while attending! And sorry that my previous jobs weren't "real" enough for you.

#4:
Interviewer: "Could you please draw a diagram of the office you worked at last?"
Like, he was asking me to draw where everyone's desks were and the general set-up.
Me: "Sure?"
I drew it out for him and explained what everything was as I was drawing it out
Interviewer: "What's this?  What's that?"
Wait a second, was I applying to a graphic design position or some artistic job?
No, no I was not.
And like, weren't you paying attention when I was explaining everything?
It wasn't the only question where he asked me to repeat
my answers since he obviously wasn't paying attention

#5:
Interviewer: "So, you have a degree in English?"
Me: "Yes, I do.  I graduated a couple years ago."
Interviewer: "Hmm, shouldn't you be a teacher?  Shouldn't you be applying to that job instead of this one?"
Huh?!
(As if I don't already get that question enough!)
But, like...Really?
If I wanted to be a teacher, then yea...I would be applying to that kind of job!
I don't..and I'm not applying to that kind of job...I'm applying to this job!

Interviewing isn't fun any way you slice it.
But, I definitely learned a lot.
And, yea I am sure that some use these tactics to weed people out,
For most of these (like all of them but #4)
I just think how these questions or comments could even pertain to the job at hand?
but they actually made me not want to work for these people!

Any fun stories from your experience in interviews? I'd love to hear that I'm not the only one!

I got a job, I got a job, I got a job hey hey hey hey!

This is exactly how I feel right now!
After nearly 6 months of being unemployed and searching...
...I have finally landed myself a job.
Not just any job.
Not a job that I settled for.
But, the job that I have been searching for.
A career type job.
I am elated.
I am relieved.
I don't have to worry about running out my savings anymore.

And, I got this job all by myself.
I didn't have any one on the inside that got me the job.
I did it on my own,
and it feels oh so good!

It makes me feel as though all of those horrendously painful interviews were totally worth it.
Some how.
I am super happy that I didn't get some of those jobs.
I learned from them, and I think that paid off in the end.

Tomorrow look forward to a post on all of those... interesting
(I think that's the best way to describe it)
interviews that I had been on.
But, for now I will look forward to the week and a half I have before starting!

Weekend get-a-way rituals.

Am I the only one that has rituals before heading away for the weekend? This weekend I am heading up to San Jose, California to visit my bestest friend!  Before I leave for a weekend, you can always tell without me saying so.  I always:

- Do my laundry
Like, all of it.
- Clean up my room
maybe even a bit of dusting (mmm no, I lied, no dusting haha!)
- Make my bed
This hardly ever happens
- Clean up my bathroom

I always, always, always (unless it's super last minute that I plan something away) do this before leaving for the weekend.  The worst part about coming back from a mini-vacation is the coming back part coming back to a mess of a room (I'm sure this list would be much longer if I didn't still live with my parents. wah wah).  I like looking forward to coming back to a clean room and everything in place.  I don't like to feel stressed that I should do it upon getting back, but being too tired to, ya know?

All packed up and ready to go.  It is supposed to rain up there all weekend.  So, yay for getting to wear my new boots!
Funny side story: I went down to San Diego for the weekend a little while ago- making sure to do my little ritual before leaving.  However, I didn't let my parents know that I wouldn't be coming home for a couple days.  Queue to my mom calling me at 3 am (yes, I am 25 years old and my mom still worries about me being out late/ not coming home).  Once I let her know where I was, she said, "I should have known you were gone for the weekend, your room was clean and your bed was made!"  Context clues, mom.  Context clues.  haha!

Also,  I have a job interview today (right before I head out to leave for the weekend)!  I am hoping so much that this goes well and is what I want. *fingers crossed*

Sorry for terrible quality photos!  And check out my cute shoes!  I just had to show you guys lol

Side note:  One of my facebook friends posted that he/she had applied to 4 jobs, and hadn't heard anything, and were "getting discouraged".  Ummm, what?  I have applied to at least 100 jobs and have barely had any responses!  Yeesh!

I've been nominated for the Liebster Award by two fantastic bloggers!  Look for that post coming soon (Like when I get back from this weekend lol)

I had a really fun idea for this post.

I had a job interview yesterday.  I had a really fun idea of posting the outfit that I had worn mostly because I never feel like I wear cute clothes, but I found the most adorable black high heels with a little black bow on it and just about died that they had my size! and I planned on taking a photo after the interview and posting it.  But, I just didn't feel like the interview went that well I don't think I'll be too heartbroken to hear that I didn't get the job because I wasn't really looking forward to working on Saturdays  So, now I have half wallowing and half celebrating that I don't think I got it Mostly because I really wanted to go to this Bluegrass festival up in San Francisco next weekend and if I got this job I don't think it would be possible So, now it's back to more job hunting.  I'll probably wear the same outfit to the next job interview so maybe we will have another chance!

Hi ho Hi Ho...it's job hunting I go.

Ya know, I thought that finding a job once I returned from my travels would be much easier than it has been.  Queue to my e-mail inbox full of rejection notices.  At this point, I don't see why I keep applying to places not to mention how difficult they make it!  Upload your resume, fill out the boxes that has everything that your resume has, answer these questions, give us your right leg I do have one opportunity still open, and I really really want it.  It would be the perfect job, really.  I have to take a test as the next step in the application process more hoops so I am hoping that I will be able to do well enough to move on to the next step and wow them in an interview... and then ultimately a job!
